UPDATE: Hotel Preview - 23rd June 2009
The 15th Dimension Jump is looming on the horizon and no doubt you'll be starting to gear up for what always has been and always will be the best Red Dwarf weekend around. Registrations to date have been excellent and have ensured that year's DJ will be at least the most well attended convention since DJ 2000.
At the start of June the Fan Club team packed their bags and headed off to Birmingham to have a spend a night in this year's DJ hotel, The Birmingham City Holiday Inn, meet with the events organiser and generally get a feel for the venue. We all came back with very positive thoughts, so allow us now to share those thoughts with you and hopefully furnish you with some key pieces of information to help you plan and begin looking forward to Dimension Jump XV. Don't forget, also, that the hotel itself provides a good summary of useful information on their site.
What is Dimension Jump?
Dimension Jump is the one and ONLY official weekend a year dedicated to Red Dwarf.
The Official Red Dwarf Fan Club book a hotel and then prepare it for what can only be described as the best weekend of the year!
The Fan Club Team invite as many guests as they can muster, and this year is certainly no exception. We currently have Craig Charles, Chris Barrie, Danny John-Jules, Robert Llewellyn, Hattie Hayridge and the FX boys booked and raring to go for what has to be one of the most exciting DJs ever! Of course, we expect more names to be added to the roster over time so we'll be sure to keep you informed of new developments.
The weekend starts around 7pm on the Friday night and runs all the way through to about 5pm on Sunday. The team will be hard at work all weekend to ensure your schedule is filled with events and fun things to do:
- Question and Answer sessions with each of the guests - you can ask all of those burning questions that you've always wanted to ask.
- Stand-up comedy from the guests that way inclined.
- A costume competition. Fabulous prizes to be won!
- Everyone gets the opportunity to meet the guests and get free autographs from their heroes. You can get whatever you like signed, too, but we advise against body parts.
- Fun and games in the the tried and tested DJ Olympics.
- Videos of Red Dwarf and a selection of the cast's other projects will be shown during downtimes in the main hall.
- You can take part in the DJ auction, where you can bid on some pretty rare and exciting items including props, costumes and memorabilia.
- A disco on Saturday night where you can drink and dance with your favourite Holly or even Rimmer himself.
- And much more...
The best part of the weekend is getting to hang around with your fellow fans and make many friends. You will leave Dimension Jump very tired but wanting more. It's worth every penny!
